PART 5: WHO IS JESUS?

Jesus is the living revelation of God, and His life shows us how to live.

Having established some basics about your new identity in Christ and important spiritual habits to keep your relationship with God alive and your spiritual life healthy, continue to put what you’ve learned into practice. Don’t just move on to something new. Embrace and grow in your new identity each day. Continue to practice the healthy spiritual habits of prayer, Bible reading, worship, gratitude, loving and serving others, showing compassion and mercy, and seeking justice in the world. But now, let’s build on top of this foundation by exploring who Jesus is.

At the heart of Christianity is a person. Jesus. He is not just a wise teacher or a powerful miracle worker. He is the Son of God, the Savior of the world, the image of the invisible God. To know Jesus is to know God. To follow Jesus is to walk the path of life, truth, and hope.

Everything changes when you realize who Jesus truly is. He reveals God’s heart, which is full of grace and truth. He embodies the kingdom, bringing healing, justice, mercy, and peace. He lays down His life to defeat sin and death and then rises again to offer us new life.

This section will explore who Jesus is and what it means to follow Him. You’ll read stories that reveal His compassion, His power, and His love. You’ll reflect on His teachings and His sacrifice. And you’ll see how knowing Jesus transforms the way you live every day.

Following Jesus is not just about believing certain things. It’s about surrendering to Him, learning His ways, trusting His words, and imitating His life. When you walk with Jesus, you discover who God is and who you’re meant to be.

Growing Closer to God

These spiritual practices will help you keep your relationship with God alive and healthy. Try one or more of the following each day::

Continue practicing listening prayer (Relax, Release, Receive).
Read a Gospel passage slowly and imagine being there with Jesus.
Spend a few minutes in silence simply saying, “Jesus, I want to know You more.”
Look for one way to love someone today as Jesus would.
Thank Jesus specifically for one thing He has done for you.

Reading 1

Jesus Reveals God

Colossians 1:15, 19
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation…For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him.

Hebrews 1:3
The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being.

Jesus is the visible image of the invisible God—everything He says and does shows us what God is truly like. If you want to know God’s heart, look at the life of Jesus.

“When I see Jesus, I see the heart of God made visible.”

Father, thank You for showing me who You are through Jesus. Help me to see Your love, compassion, and power in everything He says and does.

Reading 2

Jesus Is King of God’s Kingdom

Mark 1:15
“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”

John 18:36
Jesus said, “My kingdom is not of this world. If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jewish leaders. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

Jesus came announcing a kingdom that is near, yet unlike any earthly rule. Following Him means living by the values of this new kingdom—truth, mercy, justice, and love.

Jesus, You are my King. Teach me to walk in Your ways and bring Your kingdom to earth in how I live and love.

Reading 3

Jesus’ Teachings Change the World

Matthew 7:28–29
When Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were amazed at his teaching, because he taught as one who had authority, and not as their teachers of the law.

Jesus spoke with a kind of authority people had never heard—words that awakened hearts and reshaped lives. His teachings still carry power to transform individuals, communities, and cultures today.

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for speaking truth that still changes hearts and societies. Help me not only to admire Your words but to live them—so that Your love, justice, and grace flow through me into the world around me.

Reading 4

Jesus Models Justice and Mercy

Luke 2:42
“Woe to you Pharisees, because you give God a tenth of your mint, rue and all other kinds of garden herbs, but you neglect justice and the love of God. You should have practiced the latter without leaving the former undone.”

Luke 4:18
“The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor.”

Jesus didn’t separate spiritual devotion from care for the poor and oppressed—He combined both with compassion and action. His life shows us that justice and mercy are central to God’s mission and what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Jesus, thank You for standing with the vulnerable and the hurting. Help me to live with compassion and act with courage for those in need.

Reading 5

Jesus’ Sacrifice Cleanses Your Sin

Romans 5:8–9
“But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us…we have now been justified [made innocent] by his blood…”

Hebrews 9:14, 22
How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!…without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

Jesus died on the cross for you—not to take your place but so his bood would cleanse your sin. His sacrifice doesn’t just cover your guilt—it removes it forever.

What would it mean for you to fully believe that you are no longer guilty, but clean and innocent in God’s sight?

Prayer
Jesus, thank You for dying for me while I was still a sinner. Your blood has washed me clean and made me innocent before God. Help me live in the freedom and confidence of Your love and forgiveness.

Reading 6

Jesus Rose from the Dead

Matthew 28:1, 5-6
At dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb….The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.

1 Corinthians 15:14
And if Christ has not been raised, our preaching is useless and so is your faith.

The resurrection is the turning point of history and the foundation of our faith. Because Jesus rose, there is real hope for new life—now and forever.

Risen Lord, thank You for conquering death and giving me new life. Fill me with resurrection hope and help me live with bold, joyful faith.

Jesus Sends Us on Mission

Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

John 20:21
“As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Jesus didn’t just call us to believe—He called us to go. Just as He was sent into the world with purpose, so are we—empowered to live out His love and truth wherever we are.
