The kingdom is not just about personal change—it’s about restoring the world.

Many people believe that following Jesus is a private decision. It’s so much more than that. It’s a public calling with real social impact. When Jesus taught us to pray, “Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,” He invited us into a life that brings God’s renewal into the world around us. The Kingdom of God doesn’t retreat from the world’s brokenness. And we don’t wait for God to do it for us. We, the people of the Kingdom of God, enter into the world’s brokenness to bring healing, justice, and hope in the name and power of Jesus.

We are called to live such good and beautiful lives that others are drawn toward God. We don’t repay evil for evil or return hate for hate. Instead, we overcome evil with good. We treat every person with dignity, especially those the world often overlooks: those who are poor, marginalized, or vulnerable.

In God’s kingdom, there is no place for racism, sexism, favoritism, or exclusion. We are all one in Christ, and we honor the image of God in every person regardless of race, gender, status, or nationality. Racial righteousness, gender equality, and hospitality toward the homeless and the foreigner are not political agendas. They are biblical kingdom values that, when lived out in our lives, can truly change the world.

Even when we live in places where people around us don’t reflect God’s character, we are called to seek the good of our communities and pray for their flourishing. In whatever place we find ourselves, we are not bystanders. We are agents of redemption, ambassadors of Christ, people through whom God’s will is done on earth as it is in heaven.

This section will challenge you to reflect God’s character in public and social ways: through compassion, impartiality, hospitality, and love. The Spirit of Christ in you is not passive. He is moving you to live in a way that is actively bringing people to Jesus and heaven to earth.

Growing Closer to God

These spiritual practices will help you keep your relationship with God alive and healthy. Try one or more of the following each day:

  • Ask: “Where is God already at work around me and how can I join in?”
  • Pray for your community, school, workplace, or city by name.
  • Pay attention to a need or hurt in someone near you and respond with compassion.
  • Kingdom Breath Prayer
Sometime later this week, take several minutes to do this “Breath Prayer” to align your mind, heart, and spirit with God’s.

1. Choose a quiet space. Sit still, close your eyes, and take a few deep, slow breaths. Invite God to meet you in stillness.

2. Breathe this short prayer slowly.
Breathe in slowly, saying the first half of the phrase silently. Then, breathe out slowly, saying the second half. With each cycle of breathing, allow God to search your soul and reveal to you the ways in which he is transforming you.

Inhale: “Your kingdom come.”

Exhale: “Your will be done.”

Inhale: “On earth.”

Exhale: “As it is in heaven.”

3. Continue this for 5–10 minutes. Let the repetition shape your awareness of God’s presence in you and through you. End with a moment of silence or a closing prayer like: “Lord, help me live today in step with Your kingdom.”
